Stage 1 - Research

Getting to know the subject.

The first thing I wanted to do was get to know the Lego man a little better, understand his form and how he is put together.  This involved just doing some very light internet searching for pictures of Lego men (as shown here) and even going to the toy shop and picking up a cheap Lego set with one or two of them in it.

This is an essential step for make any model, you need good reference material and this is a rule that travels through all types of modelling from doing something that is physical or something that you have just invented (by using your own sketches).

This should also help keep the model true to your original idea, as sometimes projects with no direction or boundaries can end up looking nothing like what they should do.
